Why You Need This

Ignition switches—just like any other hardworking motorcycle part exposed to decades of duty cycles, heavy use, and exposure to the elements—are a relatively common fail point on vintage Honda CT90 motorcycles. Worn internals, corrosion, lost keys, physical damage, and more can render an ignition switch useless. Sometimes these old bikes are even found missing their ignition switches altogether.

If you need a new ignition switch for your CT90 / Trail 90, Common Motor offers this replacement ignition switch. This high-quality part is a close replacement for your lost or broken OEM part, includes x 2 keys and retaining nut*. This switch will require minor modification before it can be installed, see photos and fitment note below.

*Important Fitment Note:

To ensure proper fitment of the shroud, you will have to reuse your original OEM CT90 keys witch retaining nut. The included aftermarket nut does not fully match the OEM dimensions and will cause the shroud to not properly seat. - See photos.

If you no longer have your OEM CT90 key switch retaining nut, you will need to enlarge the 27mm hole in the shroud to 31mm. You can do this using sandpaper or a rotary tool with a sanding drum (e.g, Dremel).

OEM Keyswitch Nut Specifications:

Thickness: 8mm
Thinner CT90-Specific Step Thickness: 4mm
Total OD: 31mm
Stepped section OD: 27mm
Wrench grooves extend fully through the end of the nut.

The replacement switch nut grooves are 7mm deep and set back 1mm from end - not a direct fit for CT90 shrouds without modification.

Installation Notes:

This ignition switch requires a few minor modifications to mount correctly to the CT90. Follow the above photos to make the installation a snap.

First, remove the rubber cap on the back of the key switch, as the switch won't fit through the mounting hole with the cap on.
Second, bend the cable retaining clip straight out from the switch body as shown in the photos. For most CT90s these are the only mods required. Some bikes have a slightly smaller mounting hole. If you have one of these bikes, and you won't know until you test fit your part, you'll need to file down the rivet that holds the cable retainer to the switch body to get it through the mounting hole.

The bullet connectors on the switch plug directly into the bike's wiring harness. Dab a little dielectric grease on the bullet connectors to protect them from corrosion.
