Heidenau Tires | Honda CT90 / Trail 90 / CT110
The CT90 uses 17"x 2.75" tires front and rear — a size that's nearly impossible to find from other manufacturers. Heidenau builds them in Germany in multiple tread patterns, so you can match the style to how you ride your Trail 90.
Why You Need This
Most CT90s and CT110s still have their original tires from the 1970s or early '80s. Even if the tread looks acceptable, rubber that old has dried out, cracked, and lost all grip. The sidewalls may look fine from across the garage, but up close you'll see cracking that means the tire is done.
Heidenau makes two tire styles in the CT90's 17" x 2.75" size — all German-made with modern rubber compounds that actually grip. Choose the tread pattern that matches how you ride:
- Vintage Off Road — knobby square tread pattern, the period-correct look that came stock on the CT90. Best for mixed use: pavement and dirt/gravel.
- Vintage Street — smooth street tread with a retro look. Best for pavement riding with light trail capability.

About Heidenau
Heidenau has been building tires in Germany since the 1940s, specializing in motorcycle and scooter tires distributed worldwide. They're one of the few manufacturers still producing tires in the CT90's 17" x 2.75" size — a dimension that most modern tire companies have abandoned.
Installation
Difficulty: Intermediate
- Remove the wheel from the motorcycle.
- Break the bead on the old tire using a bead breaker tool, then lever the tire off the rim with tire irons.
- Inspect the rim for damage — check for side runout (under 1.0mm is serviceable) and bent spokes.
- Install a fresh rim strip before mounting the new tire.
- Mount the new tire with the balance dots (double red dots) aligned with the tube's valve stem. Check the rotational direction arrow on the sidewall.
- Use baby powder inside the tire and on the tube to ease installation and prevent pinching. Glass cleaner (like Windex) works as a lubricant between the tire and rim bead.
- Inflate the tire to approximately 25 psi before mounting the wheel on the bike to check for pinched tubes.
- Reinstall the wheel. Set tire pressure to 25 psi front / 32 psi rear.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size tires does the CT90 use?
17" x 2.75" — front and rear. The CT90 and CT110 use the same tire size on both wheels.
What's the difference between the Vintage Off Road and Vintage Street?
The Vintage Off Road has the square knobby block tread that came stock on the CT90 — it's the period-correct choice and works well on pavement plus dirt and gravel. The Vintage Street has a smooth street tread pattern that's quieter on pavement and rolls easier, but with less off-road grip. Both are the same size and fit the same rims.
Do I need new inner tubes and rim strips?
Yes. Replace tubes and rim strips whenever you change tires — old tubes crack and old rim strips let spoke nipples puncture the tube. The CT90 uses 17" x 2.75"–3" inner tubes. We also carry rim strips in the CT90 size.
What tire pressure should I run?
Honda specifies 25 psi (1.75 kg/cm2) front and 32 psi (2.25 kg/cm2) rear for the CT90. Check pressure when tires are cold.
