Part: Electric Starter Clutch Rebuild Kit: CL450 / CB450 / CB500T
Why You Need This Part: Electric starter clutch rebuild is often misdiagnosed as a faulty electric starter on the Honda CL450 / CB450 and CB500T. If you hear the starter turning when the start button is pressed but the engine is not rotating then the stater clutch needs to be rebuilt. The clutch is attached behind the alternator rotor, located on the left side of the engine. The electric starter drives the clutch via chain. This rebuild kit comes with the essential parts needed to rebuild the starter clutch: lock rollers, springs and pressure caps. There is also the option to rebuild the starter motor or even just go kick start only with our starter removal kit.
Installation Tip: You will need a rotor puller tool to properly install this starter clutch rebuild kit. Use a strap style oil filter wrench to hold the rotor in place when removing or installing the mounting bolt or puller. Pay close attention when taking apart the old clutch parts so that you can put them back together in the proper order. A service gasket kit for the CB450 will have new side cover gaskets for a clean installation. Make sure to torque the rotor bolt to 24 ft/lbs when reinstalling.
