Brake Line (2-Piece Stainless Steel) | Honda CB350G / CB360 / CB450 / CB550 / CB750

Braided stainless steel upper and lower front brake lines for vintage Honda disc brake motorcycles. Made in the U.S.A. exclusively for Common Motor — a direct upgrade from the original rubber hoses with improved brake feel and response.

Why You Need This

The factory rubber brake hoses on these bikes are decades old. Over time, rubber hoses swell internally under pressure, absorbing braking force instead of transferring it to the caliper. The result is a spongy, unresponsive front brake. Stainless steel braided lines don't expand under pressure, giving you a firmer lever feel and more consistent stopping power.

These lines are made exclusively for Common Motor in the U.S.A. and designed as a direct-fit replacement — much cleaner than piecing together a universal kit with mismatched fittings. Each set includes the upper hose, lower hose, and fresh copper sealing washers for the banjo bolts.

Model-Specific Notes

  • CB450 K3-K4: These early models use the finned-style brake caliper. Select the 23.75" Early Finned Caliper lower hose.
  • CB450 K5-K7 / CB500T: These later models use the smooth-body caliper. Select the 22" Late Caliper lower hose.
  • CB750 K0-K6: Uses the early finned-style caliper. Select the 23.75" Early Finned Caliper lower hose.
  • CB500K / CB550: Uses the late smooth-body caliper. Select the 22" Late Caliper lower hose.
  • Upper hose length: If you're running stock or factory-style handlebars, choose the 15.25" long length. If you've swapped to superbike, clip-on, or low-rise bars, choose the 13.25" medium length. If in doubt, measure from the banjo bolt at the master cylinder to the junction block center-to-center.

Installation

Difficulty: Intermediate

  1. Place a rag under the master cylinder and caliper to catch any brake fluid — it damages paint and chrome on contact.
  2. Disconnect the banjo bolts at the master cylinder, junction block, and caliper. Remove the old hoses.
  3. Install the new upper hose from the master cylinder to the junction block. Hand-tighten the banjo bolts with new copper crush washers on each side of every banjo fitting.
  4. Install the new lower hose from the junction block to the caliper with fresh crush washers.
  5. Tighten all banjo bolts snugly — do not overtighten.
  6. Fill the master cylinder reservoir with fresh DOT 3 brake fluid and bleed the system thoroughly until the lever is firm with no air bubbles.
  7. Check brake lever free play — should be 2–5 mm (0.08–0.2 in.) at the lever tip.

Custom lengths and configurations are available — contact us if you need a non-standard setup.

Our hydraulic brake system rebuild video walks through the complete front brake system including line replacement, caliper rebuild, and bleeding.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which upper hose length to order?

Measure from the center of the master cylinder banjo bolt to the center of the junction block bolt — that's your upper hose length. Stock handlebars use the 15.25" long length. Superbike bars, clip-ons, or low-rise bars typically use the 13.25" medium length. If you're between sizes or unsure, contact us with your handlebar type and we'll recommend the right fit.

How do I know which lower hose to order?

It depends on your caliper style. The CB450 K3-K4 and CB750 K0-K6 use the early finned caliper — choose the 23.75" lower hose. The CB350G, CB450 K5-K7, CB500T, CB500K, and CB550 use the late smooth-body caliper — choose the 22" lower hose. Look at your caliper: if it has visible cooling fins cast into the body, it's the early style.

Will these work with the CB350G? The product name says CB360/CB450.

Yes. The CB350G uses the same disc brake system as the CB360. Select the 22" Late Caliper lower hose for the CB350G.

Do I need new banjo bolts?

The set includes new copper crush washers but reuses your existing banjo bolts. If your banjo bolts are corroded or damaged, we sell replacements as an optional add-on at checkout.

What brake fluid should I use?

DOT 3 brake fluid for all Honda disc brake models. Do not use DOT 5 (silicone) — it is not compatible with the OEM seals.

Worth It
These are great. Fit my CB450K6 with stock bars perfect* *initially I thought the top line didn't fit and Common said they would replace. These will fit but it's like some hubble space scope tolerance shit we are talking about here. I just had to move some stuff around.

GREAT UPGRADE
These fit great. They look durable. I thought that this was a great upgrade. I didn't realize until I put them on the bike, but you do not need the hard line (that I already bought). They have the connection as part of the line. The lines are also thinner than the original lines. The whole setup makes the system more sleek and modern.

Good replacement
You'll need to take your time figuring out exactly how these should be oriented and routed (and which end is which). I tried a few orientations and chose the one that gave me the largest radius bends. The fit is a little too tight but it works just fine, keep everything loose until you find that perfect fit.. The fix would be to replace the banjo fitting on the top line to a straight fitting where it connects to the stock pressure switch, or make the top line 1-2 inches longer.

Great upgrade for a Honda twin
Used these as an upgrade for a CL360 from drum to disk brakes. Extremely good construction and perfect fit for my bike.

Honda Stainless Steel 2pc Brake Lines
Installed these two ss brake lines on my 72 cb350f. I recommend the shorter line for the upper hose. The 15" line was a bit too long. The 13" would have been perfect. Other than that it was a much needed upgrade to the old rubber hoses and they look great too.
