Headlight Bucket & H4 Bulb Kit | Honda CB175 / CB350 / CB360 / CB450

Old Honda headlights have three settings: dim, dimmer, and off. The factory sealed beam is weak, working replacements are nearly impossible to find, and the plastic bucket it sits in has probably cracked in the same spot every other one has. This all-metal replacement headlight bucket with a modern H4 halogen bulb is one of the best electrical upgrades you can do for your vintage Honda.

Why You Need This

The factory headlight on these bikes uses a sealed beam bulb in a unique 6.25-inch diameter—a size Honda used only on the twins. You can't walk into an auto parts store and buy a replacement. When the bulb burns out or a filament goes, you have to replace the entire sealed beam lens assembly—and you're right back to a dim light.

This kit solves all of that. The new bucket is metal instead of plastic, so it won't crack at the mount like every factory bucket eventually does. The lens takes a standard H4 bulb—when a bulb burns out, you swap just the bulb, not the whole assembly. The included 35/35W halogen is already brighter than the factory sealed beam, and if you want even more light, you can upgrade to an LED bulb at checkout. Both options stay within the 35-watt limit the charging system can handle.

The bucket is sized to look correct on the bike—same proportions as the original, same mounting points, and enough room in the back for the bird's nest of wires that lives inside every Honda headlight bucket.

Note: Do NOT use a 55W or 60W automotive H4 bulb—it will overtax the charging system on these bikes. Stick with the included 35W bulb or the LED upgrade.

CB450 K5–K7 / CB500T / CB550 owners: Your bike uses a larger 7-inch headlight bucket. You need our 7" Headlight Bucket & H4 Bulb Kit instead.

CJ360 owners looking for a lens only: If your bucket is still in good shape, our Headlight Lens & H4 Bulb Kit fits the CJ360 factory bucket without replacing the whole housing.

Model-Specific Notes

  • CB360 / CL360 / CJ360: These models use a unique headlight mounting bracket that differs from the headlight ears on the CB350 and CB450. The new bucket is slightly narrower—install three spacer washers on each side (included in the kit). You will also need to trim the metal arch at the top of the mounting bracket with a hacksaw to allow proper up-and-down headlight aim adjustment. See our install video below for the full walkthrough.
  • CB175 / CL175: These bikes originally used a smaller 5.25-inch headlight bucket. This 6.25-inch replacement fits in its place and is a worthwhile size upgrade.
  • CB350 / CL350 / CB450 K1–K4 / CL450: These bikes use headlight ears that mount on the fork tubes. The bucket bolts right onto the factory ears with no modification.
  • Turn signals: The factory grounding nuts inside the old bucket provide the ground path for your front turn signals. Save them and reinstall on the new bucket's mounting bolts. If they're missing, you'll need to ground the turn signal bodies to the green ground wire inside the bucket. The grounding bolts are M10×1.25 (fine thread).
  • High beam indicator: If your original bucket had an indicator light mounted at the top, you can drill a hole in the new bucket to transplant it, or simply leave it off.

What's in the Kit

  • Metal headlight bucket (black/chrome or full chrome)
  • 6.25-inch glass lens with H4 socket
  • 35W/35W H4 halogen bulb (or LED if selected at checkout)
  • 3-prong electrical pigtail connector
  • Mounting bolts and hardware
  • Spacer washers (for CB360/CL360/CJ360 bracket fitment)

Installation

Difficulty: Beginner (CB350/CB450/CB175) / Intermediate (CB360/CL360)

Tools needed: Phillips screwdriver, 10mm wrench, hacksaw (CB360/CL360 only), file, soldering iron (recommended)

  1. Remove the trim ring from the old bucket by swinging it out from the bottom (there's a tang at the top that hooks in).
  2. Disconnect the sealed beam bulb—either a 3-prong connector (CB360) or three individual bullet connectors (CB350 and earlier). If your bike has bullet connectors, you'll splice in the included pigtail.
  3. Note the grounding nut(s) with green wire inside the bucket—save these for the new bucket.
  4. Feed all wires out through the back and remove the old bucket from the headlight ears/bracket.
  5. CB360/CL360 only: Remove the headlight bracket, clamp it in a vise, and cut the metal arch between the top grommets with a hacksaw. File the edges smooth and touch up with paint.
  6. Feed the wire bird's nest through the new bucket's rear opening and mount the bucket to the ears/bracket. CB360/CL360: install three spacer washers on each side between bucket and bracket.
  7. Reinstall the grounding nut(s) on the new mounting bolts and connect to the green ground wire.
  8. Plug in the new lens via the pigtail connector. Install the trim ring by hooking the top tang first, then pressing the bottom in.
  9. Reconnect all wiring—double-check that nothing came unplugged during the swap.
  10. Test: turn on the key, check low beam, high beam, and front turn signals.

Clean your connectors before installing. We recommend soldering the new headlight socket wires rather than using crimp connectors for a more reliable connection.

Our headlight bucket upgrade video walks through the complete installation on a CB360—the most complicated of the supported bikes—including the bracket modification, wiring, grounding, and LED bulb swap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this headlight bucket fit my CB400F?

Yes. The CB400F uses the same headlight bucket as the CB360, and the CB400F's bracket already has the top arch removed from the factory—so there's no bracket modification needed.

The new bucket seems narrower than my CB360/CL360 bracket—did I get the wrong size?

No, that's expected. The kit includes spacer washers—install three on each side between the bucket and the mounting bracket to close the gap. This is covered in our install video above.

Can I use a brighter bulb than the one included?

You can upgrade to our LED bulb for significantly more light while drawing less power. Do NOT use a 55W or 60W automotive H4 bulb—the charging system on these bikes tops out at 35 watts and can't keep up with higher-wattage bulbs, which will drain your battery while riding.

My turn signals stopped working after I installed the new bucket—what happened?

The front turn signals ground through the headlight bucket mounting bolts via special grounding nuts with a green wire. If you didn't transfer these from the old bucket (or they were missing), the turn signals have no ground path. Reinstall the grounding nuts, or make a jumper wire with a ring terminal connected to the green ground wire. The bolts are M10×1.25 fine thread.

Do I need a new headlight bracket?

No. The new bucket uses your existing headlight ears or bracket. CB360/CL360 owners need to trim a small section from the top of the existing bracket—it takes five minutes with a hacksaw. CB350, CB450, and CB175 owners bolt straight on with no modification.

SUPER Bright with glass lens and solid metal body if u want to take your old Honda out after dusk but this first don't take the risk with that junk stock sealed bulb. better beam spread, brighter, consumes less power, more wire storage in bucket, looks better, and replacement bulbs are available every where!!!!!!!!!

Great fit for my '74 CB350F1
Fits great on my 1974 CB350F1. Looks great, halogen build is strong. I got a little rattle out of the head after install, but a little tape did the trick to keep her quiet.

Salvage
My dim, sealed stock lamp on my '70 CB350 finally went. After lots of mulling and assessing wether or not I wanted to make an attempt at repurposing the enclosure to house a modern H4 bulb, I decided to go with this package. After replacing a fuse because, in my haste I mis-wired my turn signals, the new headlight fired right up. It even works with the stock plug so you don't even have to bother crimping some new connectors on the new wiring. The bucket looks and feels great - not a cheap little thin piece of aftermarket scrap. Bulb is way brighter than the stock and a fair bit bigger too - those old 350 lamps were pretty tiny, eh? Felt compared to post a review cause I deliberated for a good bit about ordering this replacement and now that its all set up, I'm quite happy I did.

Nice Replacement Part
This kit fit well with the stock headlight/turn signal bracket on my '74 CB360T. The wiring connector fit as advertised, and I was very impressed with the power of this halogen bulb. Major upgrade from original setup... This kit works best with the headlight bracket that Common Motor offers.

Honda CB350/CB360 Headlight bucket and H4 bulb kit
This headlight is the bomb! I am very pleased with the fit, and the overall look of this product. It successfully replaces that old crusty headlight that used to sit on the front of my CB360. The added field of view at night is also very satisfying. The only complaint that I have is that I wish it came in a totally black setup, other than that this product gets a super thumbs up from me.
