Part: Shockwave Electronic Ignition System for Honda CB360 / CL360 / CJ360

Why You Need This: After years of tweaking points every 1500 miles, the time has come to switch to an electronic ignition system. That is the situation we found ourselves in several years ago. Thus we started looking for a quality electronic ignition system for our beloved Honda CB360 family of twin-cylinder motorcycles. After testing several market offerings at the time, it quickly became clear that there were way too many shortcomings with available options. If we wanted an electronic ignition system for the Honda CB360 / CL360 / CJ360 motorcycles, Common Motor Collective needed to design our own. After 3 years of R&D and over 10,000 real road miles of testing, we are proud to present to you the CB360 Shockwave Electronic Ignition System. The Shockwave replaces original ignition points and condensers for the Honda CB360, CL360 Scrambler, or CJ360 series of motorcycles. Never change or adjust points again. The Shockwave allows for more accurate and stable ignition timing. Your bike will start easier, run smoother and idle better than ever before.

Features:

  • Integrated LED's for static ignition timing and system operation motoring
  • Epoxy Sealed electronic components for resistance to heat and moisture
  • High temp silicone covered stainless wires (on sensors)
  • Complete mounting system for a seamless clean installation on your bike
  • Easy electrical connection with minimal modifications
  • Electronic components manufactured in Europe / Machined aluminum parts made in Houston, TX USA
  • Advance / Retard index marks on sensor plate for easier adjustment
  • Works with stock ignition coils
  • Retains the factory spark advance mechanism
  • Fits under the factory points cover
  • Full 12-month warranty (from day of delivery)*

NOTES:

1) *Warranty is only valid if the bike is running a Common Motor #3023 combo regulator rectifier (besides you should be running one anyway as it is the single best electrical upgrade you can do to your bike!) If you have not upgraded yet, you can purchase one now with the Shockwave at a discount price. Some early models do not have a voltage regulator and later bikes that are equipped with one are very prone to failure. A voltage spike from a defective original (or non-existent) voltage regulator can potentially damage the electronic components of the Shockwave. Hence our requirement for a new unit to be in place to avoid such damage.

2) The Shockwave will work with stock ignition coils with a minimum resistance of 3.5 ohms. If you want to put a fresh set in with your Shockwave you can also purchase a set at a discount price as well. We suggest the angled spark plug boot for a better fit. A new set of spark plugs will round out the package.

Installation Tip: Watch all the installation videos to make the process as easy as possible. You will need a set of feeler gauges to set sensor positions. A strobe-style automotive timing light is recommended to check the final ignition timing once the engine is running.

Shockwave CB360 Review
Everything worked as it should. build quality was nice and exceeded my expectations for the price. i had no trouble figuring out the installation with the instructions. my advice to other installers would be to not worry about getting the static timing perfect. just get it good enough to run the engine to dynamically time with a light. also while the electrical connections that come with the kit are good quality they are not water/weatherproof i used crimp heat shrink connectors and deutsch dtm connectors so that all the wires are protected

This kit is a must have if your tired of messing with points. Everything works as it should and the quality is good. I was a little worried on tackling this, but it was super easy to install following the installation video. Now the timing on the other hand... I had a hard time with it. The left (Blue sensor) was easy to time, but the right (green sensor) was really hard to get in time. For some reason every time I adjusted the sensor with a different feeler gauge it gave me the same result. It felt like the sensor wanted to sit in a certain spot after I tightened it down, but with enough patience and adjusting I was able to get it just right. After all is said and done the bike fires right up with no issues. The only thing I kinda dislike about the kit is that on the electric boxes you have the timing LEDs and those with flash constantly when the bike is running. I wish they didn't flash or maybe if they were not as bright, its really no big deal, But the front of the bike will have a blue glow to it when the bike is running. Not so much in the day time but more so at night. All in all the kit was great and it gives you that peace of mind that you won't be messing with points anymore.

The Shockwave work great and Common Motors instal videos make installing as easy as it gets. Common Motors reasonably price parts in combination with their video content makes it the only place I buy my parts from. My CB360 starts with one kick now. Five stars.

Richard.
Wow, what a difference, my CB360 is a new machine. It has never run so well. Sensor plate was a bit tight in the grove but a bit of advice from Caleb sorted that out. Took 2 hours to fit and time ignition. Excellent product, would highly recommend.
