Cam chain tensioner & cam chain guide for Honda CB500K, CB550K and CB550F motorcycles
The cam chain tensioner (sometimes called cam chain slipper) is a crucial component in your vintage Honda CB500K, CB550K or CB550F motorcycle's engine. It is also known to be a weak point. Over the years, the original tensioners become hard, brittle and worn. This is especially true if they have been subjected to improper tensioning. Broken or damaged cam chain tensioners can lead to serious engine damage, and unfortunately with OEM parts getting discontinued new replacement tensioners have not been easy to find. That is until now.
We are proud to offer this brand new reproduction cam chain tensioner with a matching OEM cam chain guide, developed specifically for the CB500K, CB550K & CB550F engines. After extensive testing these parts are now available and ready to install, providing a reliable solution to a decades-old problem. If you are rebuilding your engine this tensioner & guide kit is a must-have to protect your vintage Honda from future failure.
While replacing your cam chain tensioner, it is also a good time to replace your cam chain.
When installing your new tensioner, be sure that both small half moon dampener pieces are installed in the upper and lower caps of the tensioner assembly. The tensioner is easiest to install with the tensioner assembly removed from the engine. The cylinders need to be lifted slightly to completely remove it. Refer to Section 3 in the engine section of the Honda service manual. Page 24.
