Installation Tip: Proper installation and adjustment of the ignition contact points set is crucial. See our article on how to set ignition timing. Inspect the advance mechanism under the point plate to see that it is working smoothly. We've found that using a test light to set static timing is typically close, but final adjustment and testing using a strobe timing light will yield the best results. Apply a small amount of white grease on the felt wick to keep the followers lubricated. Ignition timing should be adjusted every 1,500 miles, expect to get about 6,000 miles out of a set of points before they need to be replaced.
