Parts: Ignition Rebuild Kit Honda CB550K / CB550F
Why You Need This: Having trouble getting your ignition timing correct on your Honda CB500F, CB550K, CB550F? The ignition system on the CB550 family of motorcycles is hyper sensitive and will only run properly if the parts are in tip-top shape. The ignition rebuild kit contains: left and right contact points, condensers and spark plug boots. To make things even easier our allen head mounting screw set is included. Converting to Allen head bolts makes setting the points much easier versus the destroyed screws that are in there. Finish up the job right with some fresh spark plugs and you are ready to ride!
Installation Tip: Inspect the advance mechanism under the point plate to see that it is working smoothly. Exact point ignition timing is essential to a smooth running engine, the gap of the points is subjective. We set the points with a test light not to be confused with strobe style timing light. A small smear of white lithium grease on the points cam will extend the life of the rubbing blocks. Ignition timing should be adjusted every 1,500 miles, expect to get about 6,000 miles out of a set of points before they need to be replaced. Be sure to watch our video on how to set ignition timing on the Honda CB350, CB360 and CB450. The process on the CB550 four-cylinder bikes is very similar.
