Part: Piston Pin with C-Style Clips for Honda CB550K / CB550F Motorcycles
Why You Need This: If your engine of your CB550K0-K3 / CB550F is apart for an overhaul, take a good look at the piston pins (also known as wrist pins or gudgeon pins) that came out of your pistons. Even if the cylinders measure within factory service limits only needing a hone and a re-ring, meaning you don't have to replace the pistons unless they are beat-up, you will most likely find the piston pins to be worn out. Piston pins suffer quite the beating and, unless their surface is perfectly smooth, need to be replaced for new ones.
We found that many of wrist pins on the market have the right diameter but are too short in length. This will cause the pin to float in the piston which will lead the retaining clips to hammer loose resulting in serious engine damage. With our CMC piston pin kit you can forget about this problem. The pin will fit perfectly inside your piston, without leaving any extra wiggle room.
Each kit is sold individually and includes one wrist pin with two "C" style retaining clips (we recommend changing them out every time they are removed). Our pins are designed for the original cast pistons found in the Honda CB550K / CB550F engine. They will work with NOS Honda as well as our very own CMC "Pulsar" oversize pistons.
You will need one wrist pin kit per piston, four kits per engine. We recommend picking up a fresh pair of piston rings and an overhaul gasket kit to get the rebuild done right.
Installation Tip: Install one clip on each piston on the side that faces the cam chain before installing the piston on the connecting rod. Oil the piston and wrist pin well upon assembly. Be very careful not to drop the second clip in the engine during installation (they tend to get lost in the process). Also make sure that the ends of the clip face 180 degrees away from the notch in the piston.
