Cam chain tensioner for Honda CT90 K0-K8; CT90 '78-'79 motorcycles
The cam chain tensioner is a crucial component in your vintage Honda CT90’s engine, maintaining proper tension on the cam chain as it spins. Over time, the original tensioners can become hard, brittle, and worn. This is especially true if they've been subjected to improper tensioning.
New, high quality replacement cam chain tensioners for the Honda Trail 90's are not easy to find; luckily, our replacement cam chain tensioner for the Trail 90 is here to make things easier, and help restore your engine's performance.
While replacing your cam chain tensioner, it is also a good time to replace your cam chain, large cam chain roller, oil pump drive shaft sprocket and engine oil seals.
Inspect the condition of the tensioner plunger that is located on the bottom of the crankcase for proper operation, often they can become stuck or jammed from years of sitting. It should be able to move smoothly in and out of the bore to press on the small tab of the roller bracket with a rubber tip. The CT90 uses a hydraulic only tensioner plunger on early models and spring assisted hydraulic with a lock screw on later models. The CT90 oil pump drive should be inspected (replaced if the teeth are worn out) and the large cam chain roller should also be replaced during a cam chain system rebuild. Lube all the rolling and pivoting parts with motor oil while assembling the engine.
