AGM Motorcycle Battery | Honda CB175 / CB200 / CB350 / CB360 / CB450 / CB550 / CB750
The original lead acid battery in your vintage Honda is ancient technology — it needs to be filled with acid, takes hours to charge before first use, and dies in as little as six weeks if the bike sits for any length of time. This MotoBatt AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery is a sealed, pre-charged, drop-in replacement that fits the factory battery box on every Honda twin and inline four from the CB175 to the CB750.
Why You Need This
Lead acid batteries are cheap and available, but they fail fast on vintage bikes that spend more time parked than ridden. Activate the battery, throw it in, ride it once or twice, then let the bike sit for a month — and the battery is dead. We’ve seen lead acid batteries fail in as little as six weeks on bikes that aren’t ridden regularly.
AGM batteries store better, charge faster, and last significantly longer. We’ve tested every brand of AGM battery on these bikes over the years, and MotoBatt is the one we carry because it’s the best we’ve found. With proper maintenance (a charger and regular riding), you can expect 3 to 4 years of service from one of these batteries.
Features
- Quad-Flex terminals — four posts (two negative, two positive) so you can configure the battery to match any wiring arrangement in the frame. The bigger batteries have dual-post mounting on each side for adding accessories.
- Brass terminals with stainless steel hardware — resists corrosion far better than the plated steel found on most batteries. Comes with a small wrench for installation.
- Sealed and pre-charged — no acid to fill, no activation charge needed. Drop it in the bike and ride.
- Fits the factory battery box — direct fit on all Honda CB175, CB200, CB350, CB360, CB450, CB500T, CB500K, CB550, and CB750 models without modification.

Warranty note: MotoBatt AGM batteries carry a 90-day AS IS warranty from date of purchase. Purchase a MotoBatt charger and the warranty extends to 24 months. A battery is a reservoir of electrons, not a power plant — keeping it topped off with the right charger is the single best thing you can do for its lifespan.
Important: Old-style trickle chargers designed for lead acid batteries can damage AGM batteries. You need an AGM-specific smart charger. Our MotoBatt charger is purpose-built for these batteries and has a quick-disconnect pigtail so you never have to remove the battery from the bike to charge it.
Installation
Difficulty: Beginner
Tools needed: 10mm wrench, wire brush
- Turn the key off and disconnect the negative (black) battery cable first, then the positive (red) cable. Disconnecting in this order prevents a short circuit.
- Remove the old battery from the battery box.
- Clean both cable terminals with a wire brush to remove any corrosion — a poor connection on the terminals is the number one cause of charging and starting problems.
- Install the brass terminal posts onto the new battery. Configure the posts to match your bike’s cable arrangement — the quad-flex design means you can use top or side mounting on either side.
- Place the new battery in the factory battery box. Connect the positive (red) cable first, then the negative (black) cable. This is the reverse of removal.
- Start the bike and verify the charging system is working — you should see mid-12V to mid-13V on a voltmeter at idle.
If your charging voltage is low or inconsistent, the battery alone won’t fix it. The factory voltage regulator and rectifier are the weak links in the charging system on every vintage Honda. Upgrading to a modern combo regulator/rectifier is the single best electrical upgrade you can make — the twins use our single-phase unit (#3023) and the fours use our three-phase unit (#3518).

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will this battery last?
With proper maintenance — an AGM-specific charger and regular riding — expect 3 to 4 years. Without a charger, the battery will slowly discharge when the bike is parked and the lifespan drops significantly. A cheap lead acid battery lasts 6 weeks to a year on a bike that sits; this AGM battery stores much better, but it still needs to be kept topped off.
Can I use a lithium-ion battery instead?
We don’t recommend lithium-ion batteries in these bikes. The vintage Honda charging system produces mid-12V to mid-13V, which is on the low end of what most lithium batteries need to charge properly. Lithium batteries are also very sensitive to exact charging voltage — a narrow band that these old charging systems can’t reliably maintain. AGM is the right technology for these bikes.
Do I need to upgrade my regulator/rectifier?
Strongly recommended. The factory voltage regulator and rectifier are the most failure-prone electrical components on these bikes. If your charging system isn’t keeping the battery topped off while riding, a new battery alone won’t solve the problem. The twins (CB175, CB200, CB350, CB360, CB450, CB500T) use our single-phase regulator/rectifier (#3023). The fours (CB500K, CB550, CB750) use our three-phase regulator/rectifier (#3518).
Will my old battery charger work with this?
Probably not. Old-style trickle chargers and chargers designed for lead acid batteries can actually damage AGM batteries by overcharging them. You need an AGM-compatible smart charger. Our MotoBatt charger supports both 6V and 12V systems and has a quick-disconnect pigtail that stays on the bike — just plug it in when parked and unplug when you ride.
Does this fit the CB750 K0?
Yes. This battery fits all CB750 models from the K0 (1969) through the 1978 models, including the CB750F Super Sport and CB750A Hondamatic. The battery box dimensions are the same across the entire CB750 production run.
