Part

Tapered Roller Steering (Headset) Bearings for vintage Honda twins and fours.

Why You Need This

The original ball style steering (headset) bearings on your Honda CB175 / CL175 / SL175 / CB200 / CL200 / CB350 / CL350 / SL350 / CB360 / CL360 / CL360 / CB450 / CL450 / CB500T / CB550 / CB750 likely have not been serviced since leaving the factory. With time, they can become rusty, pitted, or caked with dirt, leading to difficult steering. Our steering bearing conversion kit, which replaces the old ball-style headset bearings with high-performance tapered roller bearings, will significantly improve the smoothness and predictability of your bike's steering. The kit includes upper and lower bearings and races, dust shields, and spacers. For those on a budget, we also offer a caged ball steering bearing set. Enhance your ride further with our polyurethane Space Capsule handlebar dampers and rear shocks.

Installation Tip

Remove the original ball races from the frame and triple tree stem before installing the new tapered roller set. Use a long punch and stout hammer for this task. Pack the bearings with grease before installation. The kit includes a shim spacer washer for the lower bearing and seal; use the thinner of the two spacers for Honda applications. The smaller diameter washer is typically not used. Post-installation, the bearings may need readjustment (usually a gentle tightening) after the first ride as they settle, which may cause the steering to feel looser initially.

Mr
I replaced the original bearings on both my CL350s with these and it made the huge difference in the stability and handling of both bikes. Easy to install, especially if you watch their video on how to do it.

Tapered steering bearings
Excellent kit. Brendon’s instructional video on YouTube makes it impossible to screw up. Kudos for using tools us basement wrenches use. Only question i have is what is the torque value for to top nut?

Bike Builder
I got these nice new tapered roller steerer bearings to replace the factory ball bearings in my 1972 Honda CB500 Four. Although I've replaced bearings before, Brenden's video was a great primer for this specific set. He offered some great tips, like putting the races in the freezer before installing. The parts arrived quickly and fit perfectly - exactly as advertised. You do have to be a little careful installing the races - they can chip easily if you hit them too hard. A dead blow hammer and piece of scrap wood helps to avoid any damage. Overall a great product - as I've come to expect from CMC.
