Universal Throttle Control | Honda CT90 / CB175 / CB200 / CB350 / CB360 / CB450 / CB500 / CB550
A sticky, damaged or missing throttle control takes the fun out of every ride. This universal throttle control is a clean, simple replacement for vintage Hondas with 7/8" handlebars. It comes with a new nylon throttle sleeve matched to the model you select.
Why You Need This
On a stock bike, the throttle lives inside the right-hand switch box. That box holds the throttle cable mounts and the pocket the throttle tube rides in. This control does that job in its own housing, which is what you want on a custom build when the stock right-hand box is coming off.
It feels great, looks right, and works with the throttle cables on the models listed below. Choose black or polished aluminum. When you change the controls, it’s a good time to replace your throttle cables too.
Keeping your stock right-hand switch box? Then you probably only need a new nylon throttle sleeve (the CB175 through CB550 sleeve or the CT90 K6–K9 sleeve), not this control.

Note: This control handles the throttle only. It has no switches and no mount for the front brake lever. Many riders who remove the stock right-hand box mount the lever on a separate drum brake perch and lever set or on the Honda master cylinder. Any switches your build needs have to be set up separately.
Which Sleeve Ships With Your Control
Your bike runs either a single throttle cable at the grip or a push-pull pair, and the sleeve has to match. Select your bike model when you order and we ship the right one:

- Dual-cable sleeve: CB360 / CL360 / CJ360, CB500K / CB550
Installation
Difficulty: Intermediate
- Separate the two halves of the stock right-hand switch housing, unhook the throttle cable (or cables) from the throttle grip pipe, and slide the old throttle grip off the bar.
- Lubricate the inside of the new nylon sleeve with a slurry of bearing grease mixed with a little oil. Put some on the handlebar where the sleeve rides, and where the sleeve sits inside the housing.
- Lubricate your throttle cables with light oil before you install them.
- Slide the sleeve onto the bar, hook up the throttle cable (or cables), and clamp the housing in place.
- Fit a right-hand grip over the new sleeve.
- Take up cable slack at the barrel adjuster on the throttle cable (or cables). Then turn the bars from full left to full right and check that no cable binds and the throttle snaps closed on its own in every position.
If the throttle binds when you tighten the housing: throttle sleeves and housings are made in different places and can vary slightly in size. Lightly sand the outside edge and face of the sleeve’s collar until it turns freely with the housing clamped down.
If the sleeve is tight on the bar itself: pop out the bar-end plug and try again, since bars can flare slightly at the end. On painted bars the paint can also make the fit tight. Sand or polish the section of bar the sleeve slides over; the sleeve and grip cover it once everything is back together.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between this and the nylon throttle sleeve?
The universal throttle control replaces the throttle part of the stock right-hand switch box. It comes with its own housing, cable mounts and a nylon sleeve. If you’re keeping the stock switch box, you only need a nylon throttle sleeve: the CB175 through CB550 sleeve or the CT90 K6–K9 sleeve.
Does it have a kill switch or starter button?
No. It handles the throttle only, so any switches your build needs have to be set up separately.
The throttle binds when I tighten the housing. What do I do?
Sleeves and housings can vary slightly in size, and sometimes the sleeve’s collar rubs inside the housing. Lightly sand the outside edge and face of the collar until the throttle turns freely with the housing tight. It should snap closed like a mousetrap once everything is lubricated and set up.
Does the control have a slack adjuster?
No. The control itself has no tension adjustment. Take up slack with the barrel adjuster on the throttle cable, at the handlebar end or the carburetor end.
Will it fit my early CT90?
No. It fits the CT90 from the K6 (1975) through 1979. Earlier CT90s use a throttle assembly built into the handlebar, which doesn’t take this type of sleeve.
Which sleeve do I need?
It depends on your bike’s cable setup. The CT90 K6 through 1979, CB175, CB200, CB350, CB450 and CB500T families take the single-cable sleeve. The CB360, CB500K and CB550 take the dual-cable sleeve. Select your model when you order and it ships with the right one.
