Why You Need This: We all remember the rides we take on our vintage Honda's but something easy to forget is how much you are off the bike. Each moment the battery on your motorcycle sits unused it slowly depletes. As much as we like to think of our batteries as small electrical generators, in reality, they are more of a bucket filled with electrons. While we are riding that bucket is getting refilled but when we are off the bike for anything more than a few days you need to be refilling that bucket with a battery maintainer/ charger. If you always keep it filled, your bike is always ready to hop on and go for that next ride.
Battery chargers and especially the batteries themselves have changed significantly since the days when our Honda's were rolling off the factory floor. In the old days where you could buy almost any battery charger to keep the classic lead-acid topped off, today's AGM batteries benefit from chargers made specifically for the technology inside them. This battery charger/maintainer is self-sensing, meaning it is going to auto-recognize the battery that is hooked up to it. Whether it is a 6v/12v battery or lead-acid/AGM battery this charger will design a charging program meant to maximize bolt the life of your battery and capacity of your battery. It provides 1.25 amps of charging current while stepping through 9 different charging and monitoring stages customized by its internal microprocessor. Compared to our mini battery charger/maintainer this fully sized unit has a few extra steps it takes in not only being able to recover a further depleted battery but it also takes that battery through a 24-hour cycle to regain as much capacity and reliability as possible. No, it is not going to save a dead battery(it is gone you have to learn to let go) but its the best chance you have to maintain/ revive the batteries that could be revived.
Much like all other Motobatt accessories and chargers, this unit features their awesome quick disconnect system to quickly connect your cafe racer or scrambler when you get home. All chargers come with both spring clip leads as well as a ring terminal harness to permanently attach to your bike. If you have more than one bike pick up an extra ring terminal harness right here.
Installation Tip: The ring terminal "pigtail" is designed to be left installed on the battery in your bike for quick connection and disconnection to the battery charger. Make sure to connect the positive side first then the negative and be sure to secure the end of the terminal on the frame with some zip ties to keep it from flopping around when riding. Route the pigtail where it can easily be accessed to connect the charger too. Add the extension cable if you need more length between the charger and the pigtail leads.
