Installation
Difficulty: Beginner
Lube it first. New cables do not come lubricated from the factory, and running one dry wears it out fast. Coat the inner wire with a quality cable lube — or an assembly-grease and light-oil slurry — before you install it. A well-lubed cable can also settle down a bouncing needle.
- Seat the drive end into the speedometer drive unit at the front wheel, and route the cable up to the gauge.
- Add a dab of light grease at each end as you connect it.
- Seat both ends fully and hand-tighten the knurled nuts.
Removing the old cable? At the wheel end, the drive screw has to come all the way out before the cable will pull free of the housing.
