Model-Specific Notes

Installation

Difficulty: Beginner

Tools needed: JIS screwdriver

  1. The front drum brake bearing retainer is held in place by 3 countersunk JIS screws behind the speedometer drive on the CB450 and CL450 models with a front drum brake.
  2. Remove the 3 JIS screws and pull off the bearing retainer. Use a JIS screwdriver or impact driver to remove the screws if stuck. Now is the best time to replace the worn out front wheel bearings in the front wheel.
  3. Install the new bearing retainer plate and reinstall the screws. Use a small amount of anti-seize on the threads of the screws for easier removal next time.
  4. Properly align the speedometer drive gear with the tabs of the bearing retainer before reinstalling the front wheel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this fit my CB450?

The CB450 K0 black bomber, CB450 K1, and CB450 K2 were the only CB450 models to use a front drum brake and this front wheel bearing retainer. All other front drum brake models were the CL450 Scrambler models. If you have a CB450 K3 or later with a front hydraulic disc brake, you need our front disc brake bearing retainer.

Do I need a special tool to remove my wheel bearing retainer?

No, you do not need a special tool to remove the front wheel bearing retainer on your drum brake CB450 and CL450. A JIS screwdriver will make the job easier, but a standard Phillips screw driver or impact driver will remove the screws. The rear wheel bearing retainer on these motorcycles will need our specialized rear wheel bearing removal tool to be removed and replaced.
