Nylon Throttle Sleeve | Honda CB175 / CB200 / CB350 / CB360 / CB450 / CB500 / CB550

The throttle sleeve — or throttle tube — is the nylon piece your right grip rides on, and it's what turns your wrist into cable pull at the carburetors. When it goes dry, worn, or brittle, the throttle drags and won't snap shut on its own. A fresh nylon sleeve puts that back the way it should be.

Why You Need This

Let go of the throttle and it should snap closed like a mousetrap. If it hangs open or feels notchy, the usual culprit is a worn or dry throttle sleeve, or frayed cables. The sleeve is a cheap, simple part that carries the whole throttle action, so replacing a tired one while you have the control box apart is easy insurance against a sticking throttle.

Which Sleeve Fits — Single vs Dual Cable

These bikes take either a single-cable or a dual-cable sleeve, depending on how many throttle cables they run. Select your model above and we ship the correct one:

  • Single-cable sleeve — CB175 / CL175 / SL175, CB200 / CL200, CB350 / CL350 / SL350, CB450 / CL450 / CB500T
  • Dual-cable sleeve — CB360 / CL360 / CJ360, CB500K / CB550K / CB550F

Installation

The sleeve doesn't come lubricated, and lubrication is what keeps the throttle snapping shut:

  1. With the control box apart, work a grease-and-oil slurry (light grease thinned with a little oil) into the inside of the sleeve and where it rides in the throttle housing.
  2. While everything is apart, lube the throttle cables with light oil too.
  3. Reassemble and check that the throttle snaps fully closed on its own before you ride.

You can see the sleeve inspected and lubricated in our cable-care video:

Frequently Asked Questions

Which throttle sleeve does my bike need?

It depends on whether your bike is a single-cable or dual-cable setup. Single-cable bikes — CB175, CB200, CB350, CB450, and CB500T — take the single-cable sleeve. Dual-cable bikes — CB360, CB500K, and CB550 — take the dual-cable sleeve. Select your model above and we ship the right one.

Is this the whole throttle housing?

No — this is the replaceable nylon sleeve (throttle tube) that the grip rides on, not the complete control housing or switch assembly. It's the part inside the housing that wears out and makes the throttle stick.

Will it fit my aftermarket handlebars?

The sleeve is sized for the stock vintage-Honda handlebar. Oversized or aftermarket “superbike” style bars can be a tight fit, so measure before ordering if you're not running stock bars.

My throttle won't snap shut — is it the sleeve?

Often, yes. A worn or dry sleeve is a common cause of a sticking throttle, along with frayed or dry cables. A fresh sleeve, lubricated on install, usually restores a clean snap-shut. If it still hangs up, check the cables for fraying and routing.

I have a CT90, SL100, or CB125 — does this fit?

No, those use different sleeves. See our CT90 / Trail 90 throttle sleeve or SL100 / CB125 throttle sleeve instead.

Needed some modification
This is a 5 star item. I was surprised how tore up my old sleeve was. I had to mod this sleeve a bit to work in my original throttle/right control cluster. It was hanging up so I snipped off the back ear and smoothed it down a bit with a dremel. You won't find a better replacement for use with your original equipment. CB450K6.

Perfect fit, must have
Decided to fix my throttle assembly with new parts and what not. I took my old garbage grip off and surprise surprise what was left of my throttle sleeve was nearly just as bad as my grips. Now my throttle rides smooth and I couldn't be happier. Another win for the CMC team. I'd buy from them over some sketchy Amazon listing any day.
